Yet it is probably one of the fewer places in Orchard that allows one to break out of the city's hustle and bustle. Derived from a French word “cuvee”, which means “blend”, KUVO combines a range of elements with its menu and ambience, offering a multifaceted dining and social experience all under one roof.
We were all welcomed with a glass of KUVO’s exclusive champagne-method sparkling wine Antica Fratta Brut ($17 a glass, $98 a bottle), before diving into some bite-sized bliss. A pretty good start to the evening with the new key tapas highlights: Brandy Flambeed Beef Cube ($22) – skipped this as I am not a beef-eater; Grilled Octopus ($16) sous-vide thinly sliced octopus leg with slow-cooked potato and smoked paprika – Tender and flavorful; Calamari Ajillo ($16) – Another ‘sotong’ dish sautéed in olive oil and garlic with pork chorizo, but the squid unfortunately was a tad tough and failed to absorb the flavor from these ingredients. Thankfully the Altantic Cod Meuniere ($20) –Sweet pea-encrusted Cod Medallion on a bed of potato gratin with Pearl Barley fricasse and citrus nutty-brown butter was quite a mouth-watering fish dish with great flavor combination.
Wagyu & Camembert Sliders (S$17), Green Iceland (S$21)
English Scotch Egg (S$14), Captain B.R. (S$21)
The next 5 tapas plates, each complemented by a bespoke cocktail, were simply decadent indulgences, and undoubtedly the restaurant’s USP. As aforementioned, I am not a beef eater, hence no comments for the Wagyu & Camembert Sliders and English Scotch Egg. Sorry guys! But the bespoke cocktail that was paired with it – Captain B.R. (which stands for British Rum, consists of Earl Grey infused Rum, fresh lemon, and soda water) was my favourite cocktail concoction for the night. Earl Grey is always the bomb!
KUVO Coffee Hot Wings (S$14), Brewski Yen (S$21)
As for the best tapas dish, most people would probably agree on the much raved about classic hit from KUVO’s previous menu – Kuvo Coffee Hot Wings (served with baby carrot crudités and blue cheese dip). In fact, I was pretty intrigued by the name of the dish initially, but my excitement turned out to be quite a disappointment. Coffee and spices, sounds like the best of both worlds for me, however they were a tad too spicy to taste the coffee at all
Kurobuta Yakiniku Donburi (S$16), Tales of Shu (S$21)
So Kurobuta Yakiniku Donburi was the one that won me over with its tender and juicy grilled kurobuta pork loin with a slow-cooked egg served on warm Japanese style rice (slightly sticky) which resonated so well with my tastebuds. This was truly happiness in a bowl.Slipper Lobster (S$15), Hello Cel’lo (S$21)
All these bespoke cocktails ($21) were brought to us by Mixologist Yutaka Nakashima, the helmsman at Elixer Bar in KUVO Singapore. We were lucky to witness him concocting the sake-based cocktail Tales of Shu via a glass vacuum coffee maker, using freshly-prepared genmai tea, saké, Lillet Blanc, and fresh orange peel. I heard that you could have your favourite bespoke cocktail concocted by him too!The ambience at KUVO is rather cosy, spacious and would make an ideal spot for social gatherings, business meetings, and private parties. There will be live band performance at the Bar section on Thursdays and Fridays too. In a nutshell, it was an interesting gastronomic evening with Asian-fusion exotic selections in a somewhat fine dining setting.
