Tokyo Banana is one of the brands owned by Grapestone company, a sweets conglomerate which started its first played dessert restaurant "Budou no Ki" in Ginza back in 1979. In 1985, it branched into the "omiyage" market as "Gin no Budou" by selling cookies and pies in pretty packaging in department stores. I have always been a regular fan of their signature cracker pies that tasted better than a sugar-dusted wheat bran biscuit.
However, what attracted me the most is their entremets, which are equally or even more complex than even some renowned French patisseries. They encompassed all the desirable combination of textures; smooth, crunchy, pillowy and delved deep into the flavors. Compared to the other cake boutiques in depachika, these creations glow gorgeously on the shelves, as if deliberately designed in a way to grab customers' attention. (Scroll below for the pictures)
But they are a world apart from those kawaii character cakes.
Their taste do not deceive.
