The Original Benedicts (¥1200) is the predictable equation of eggs, bacon and homemade English Muffins and a tangy hollandaise sauce. Nevertheless, it is not faultless for the muffins were not sufficiently toasted and the bacons were half-heartedly fried, resulting in a sinewy texture.
A.M. Eggcellent Benedict (¥1500) gives the traditional egg bens a Japanese twist by serving them on Mugi Siso Rice instead of muffins. The combination of organic eggs, avocado and maguro is as raw as they sound but the combination seems to work.
Topped with lotus chips and Mugi miso hollandaise, this seems to remind me of not sushi but a deconstructed Onigiri. A dish that might interest one who is bored with the usual eggs and muffins but poached eggs still work best on english muffins for me.
The pancakes did not look attractive and thus we had the Grand Marnier Brioche French Toast (¥1400) for something sweet. Though it uses brioche, it did not achieve the same level fluffiness and buttery aroma as Foru Cafe.
Perhaps finding a place for breakfast in Tokyo is no longer a hassle since Eggcellent opens as early as 7am on weekdays and 8am on weekends and holidays. But the food is still not convincing to drag a famished and sleepy person out of slumber.
